Training & Safety Coordinator

Department: Safety & Compliance
Location: Sherwood Park, AB

We are looking for a Training & Safety Coordinator at our Head Office located in Sherwood Park. This position works Monday to Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM. This position reports directly to the Safety Manager and is responsible for a variety of duties related to the training and safety of all Caron Transportation Systems employees.

This position would be an excellent fit for a safety coordinator who has experience working within an established safety program and enjoys leading in-house training and orientation to groups of employees.

Experience and training in health and safety is required for this position.

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • 2-5 years of directly related experience
  • Degree, diploma, and/or safety certification, preferably in transportation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with others
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient computer skills using MS Office Suite

Job Duties:

  • Plan, lead and conduct various training sessions through online and oral presentation(s) utilizing appropriate technology, audio visual aids, and relevant supporting documents.
  • Ensure new hires are orientated and all required documentation is completed accurately and filed appropriately.
  • Design, plan, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate training programs (internal and external) for target audiences in collaboration with business units including operations and human resources to met both individual function and system wide training needs.
  • Create and update technical and procedural documentation (ex. standard operating procedures, employee handbooks, reports, forms, presentations, graphics, tip sheets, etc.)
  • Update and maintain training/safety manuals and presentation materials:
    • Create, write and edit tip sheets, presentations, and e-learning
    • Perform User Acceptance Testing for upgrades
  • Coordinate promotion and distribution of information regarding training programs to all managers and workers.
  • First point of contact providing training and safety support to the safety team, and Caron terminals, acting as a liaison with external providers
  • Collaborate with internal Samsara and Hours of Service support.
    • Understand the Samsara platform, Hours of Service, and internal Samsara support, and be comfortable with filling in as required.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the safety management system and support implementation of processes to ensure successful integration of system changes.
  • Ensure the appropriate material is available and on site(s):
    • Caron Safety Manual
    • Applicable Provincial and/or Federal legislation and regulations
    • Federal Labour Code
    • Applicable traffic safety acts, etc.
  • Participate in site audits for compliance and update to ensure the alignment with Provincial and Federal legislation
  • Regularly conduct site inspections and hazard assessments
  • Prepare and participate in audits such as driver log and/or internal/external audits
  • Provide monthly reporting and analysis, including costs from the safety/training database and distribute to the Safety Manager.
  • Assist with contractor/vendor research, communication, evaluation, and ensure the necessary documentation is received and filed.
  • Communicate, coach, and assist leadership to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met.
  • Perform assigned tasks in accordance with the Caron QMS and production standards required by the Company and the industry as a whole
  • Perform all other duties as assigned
